ITINERARY: 12 DAYS RWANDA HOLIDAY VACATION

This 12 Days Rwanda Safari offers an opportunity to trek chimps, Forest Canopy walk, mountain gorillas, carry out game drives, see lots of bird species and conducting a city tour.

 

Day 1: Arrival at the Kigali International Airport.
On arrival at the Kigali Airport, a tour representative from Africa Adventure Safaris will welcome you and take your Hotel, and brief you about your safari. Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel (Luxury)/ The manor hotel (Mid Range)/Chez Lando Hotel (Budget).

 

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park.
In the morning, our company guide/driver will pick you at the hotel, and drive to Akagera National park. The park borders with Tanzania, with beautiful undulating plains,  dense broad-leafed woodland, lighter acacia woodland and rolling grassland with an extensive series of lakes surrounded  by papyrus swamps forming a sprawling wetland.  On arrival after lunch at Akagera Game Lodge, you will be for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will see animals as Hippos, Crocodiles, buffalos and variety of bird species. Return to the Lodge for Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 3: Morning Game drives and afternoon transfer to Volcanoes national park.
After a cup of tea, undertake a morning game drive in Akagera national park in search of elephants, buffalos, giraffe, hyenas, and many more as well as different bird species. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast, and later drive back to Kigali where you will have your lunch. Later set off to Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla view hotel(Luxury)/ La Palme Hotel(Mid Range)/Hotel Muhabura(Budget).

 

Day 4: Gorilla tracking.
Take an early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters of Parc National des Volcans for a briefing from the ranger guides. Begin trekking the mountain gorillas in the lush rainforest at the slopes of the Virungas. The activity ranges between 1 – 8 hours depending on the movements of the gorillas in the jungle and the gorilla group you take. On return from the gorilla tracking, you will relax at the hotel and have an evening nature walk or cultural entertainment. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 5: Dianne Fossey Hike and Nature walk.
In the morning, you will hike up to Karisoke research centre, which was set up by Dian Foseey, an American primatologist who spent her years concerving the life of the gorillas. She was killed and buried there. You will learn more about her work and life of the mountain gorillas. In the evening, you will go for  a nature walk along Lake Bulera and Bigesera. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Golden monkey tracking.
In the morning after breakfast, you will set off to the forest to track the rare Golden monkeys. You will encounter other primate species as vervet monkeys, baboons, and a variety of bird species and butterflies. The guide will be ready to answer your questions about fauna and flora. On return, you will set off to Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena hotel(Luxury)/Stipp Hotel(Mid Range)/Malahide paradise Hotel(Budget).

 

 Day 7: Boat cruise, beach relaxation and afternoon transfer to Kigali.
In the morning after your breakfast, you will enjoy a boat cruise on the Lake Kivu, with view of the islands and Nyiragongo volcano. Return to the shores and relax at the beach. After lunch, you transfer to Kigali where you will have dinner and overnight.

 

Day 8: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National park.
After a relaxed breakfast, you will set off a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park through scenic valleys and terraced hills. Reach Nyungwe in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest Lodge (Luxury)/ Peace Guest House (Mid Range)/Gisakura Guest House(Budget).

 

Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking and nature walk.
Take your breakfast before 6.00 am and embark on chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. Expect to encounter the Angola colobus monkeys, forest birds, and butterflies. There are 13 primate species in the forest. In the afternoon if still strong, you may go for nature walk or cultural walk to the Banyarwanda community. Dinner and overnight at stay.

 

Day 10: Forest canopy walk.
In the morning, you will go for a forest canopy walk, which is a 50m high platform that rises above the forest. You will have an opportunity to have an eye to eye contact with the birds, primates that like staying and playing on top of the forest, as well as waterfalls. With this breathtaking experience, you will have a clear view of one of Africa’s biggest forest with view of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 11: Return to Kigali.
In the morning after breakfast, you will set off for Kigali with en route visiting the King’s Palace at Nyanza, Butare Museums and Murambi Genocide Memorial Site. You will reach Kigali late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 12: City Tour and departure.
In the morning, you will have a city tour, where you will visit the museums, the local markets, and other important areas in Kigali. In the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight if on schedule.
